Towns Cities and Nature

Towns and Cities

Our park is surrounded by beautiful villages and interesting cities. By bike you will find some well-preserved old village centres such as Barendrecht, Oud-Beijerland and Rhoon. Also worth a visit is the monumental church of Kijfhoek from 1368 in Zwijndrecht and the Pendrechtse Molen, a national Mill monument  from  1731! Kinderdijk is just a stone’s throw away and a beautiful bike path from our park. You won’t find a windmill complex like Kinderdijk anywhere else in the world. The ingenious system of windmills and pumping stations has been keeping the soil dry here for centuries now, in a constant struggle between human brains and the power of the water. Visitors come from all across the world to experience this unique piece of history for themselves. Since Kinderdijk is a monument to the history of humankind, they are officially included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Not far from our park are the cities of Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Gouda.

Dordrecht

This city can  rightly call itself the oldest city in Holland. The thousand monuments still determine the face of this medieval city. Put on your hiking boots! For example, for the pleasant city tour:’Rondje Dordt’. Every summer, the Book Market is flooded with almost 600 stalls, the streets of the old town. The famous Christmas market also takes place here every year.

Rotterdam

Known all over the world for its port. Today Rotterdam is also known for its modern architecture, which can be found all over the city. Think of the Erasmus Bridge, the Market Hall and the Cube Houses. Beautiful attractions in Rotterdam are:

  • Zoo Blijdorp
  • Euromast
  • Steamship SS Rotterdam
  • World Museum
  • Katendrecht

You can also  enjoy one of the many terraces that Rotterdam has to offer. The most famous terraces of Rotterdam are located at the Old Port or at  Hotel New York. A lively, hospitable metropolis, where many festivals are organized

Nature

Nature lovers can have fun near our park. The nature reserves near to our park are the Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden and are known for their (cut off) pastures. The Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden are freshwater grind whales and are under the influence of ebb and flow. In addition to the many birds that nest there, you will also find special plants in this swampy piece of nature.

Characteristic of the surroundings of our park are also the polder landscapes with ditches and farms, dikes and country roads. Enjoy the beautiful views and surprising views of the water. A beautiful area with a special flora and fauna  where  you can go hiking  and  cycling.

At our reception we have several beautiful cycling and hiking trails.

The blue connection
The blue connection is a special water link between the Zuidpolder in Barendrecht, the future Buijtenland Landscape Park of Rhoon and the Zuiderpark in Rotterdam. This is a route that also ensures clean water in the region. However, it also serves as a water reservoir and establishes an ecological connection between the various green areas. At the reception we have a map with the possibilities.

Seniors

Our park offers seniors many opportunities to enjoy a pleasant holiday and relax……. From the water side of our park you can observe the many ships on the Oude Maas.  If you  want to enjoy a beautiful environment, then you do not need to go far.  How about a quiet walk along the river Oude Maas and a break on a bench. Or  maybe you want to play a game of golf? You can do this at the nearby golf course in Rhoon.

Children

In good weather, your children will have a lot of fun on our new playground with climbing tower, and large swing. From your chair you have a good view of your children. When booking, you can ask for preference for these special pitches.
Especially for children;

  • Petting zoo “De Kleine Duiker” and nature playground “Barend Bos”
  • Swimming pool Inge De Bruijn in Barendrecht (covered)
  • Outdoor swimming pool in Heerjansdam
  • Small train “Maasoever Spoorweg”. The train runs along the banks of the Oude Maas, through the forest, over a railway bridge and through a railway tunnel.
  • On the farm “De Buytenhof” in Rhoon you can pick strawberries, apples or flowers.

This is what our guests say:

As more than 9 years old, I am a satisfied customer and have a great time here. There are 2 boats of mine here, one in the summer in the harbor and in winter on shore and the other, a somewhat smaller boat, is on shore all year round. With that boat I make use of the wide and easy trailer slipway all year round. The terrain and the harbour are well maintained, very neat and tidy and it is well organized. What I am also happy with is that it is easily accessible and well secured. Without good and motivated staff this is of course not possible. I will stay here for a while!

Since 1998 we have been located at Recreatiepark de Oude Maas, then called Camping de Oude Maas. The past 20 years we have seen a lot of changes and improvements. There used to be a canteen and a phone booth because not everyone had a cell phone and you had to go to the cell to make a phone call. In 2001 chalets were placed and all mobile homes came together on 1 field where we are. The toilet blocks have been completely renovated and there are now underground containers for separated waste. Also all the paths have been recently refurbished and new mobile homes have been placed for rental but also for sale. We love it here on the campsite; it's quiet but still very cosy.

During the May holidays we camped with our girls (4 & 6 years old) on the field with the new playground. They had such a good time! In addition, the sanitary is new and clean, the staff friendly, and there is much to do in the immediate vicinity. We can recommend it to everyone!

By coincidence we discovered the camper pitches at Recreatiepark de Oude Maas on our way to the South of France. Since that one time we come back regularly to relax for a couple of nights on one of the 11 camper pitches overlooking the marina or the river. They are spacious paved pitches with their own electricity and water. In the morning we get freshly baked sandwiches and croissants at the reception and look for a nice cycling route for that day. That's all you need, isn't it?

It is with great pleasure that we have been visiting Recreatiepark de Oude Maas for many years. We stand with our tour caravan on - we think - one of the most beautiful places on the park, namely on one of the comfort pitches with a wonderful view over the river. Our boat is located in the marina next door because I love to fish on the Oude Maas. In the evening we sit in front of our caravan enjoying a drink and the sunset.
